Main Environmental Characteristics:

  • Established environmental working group and environmental website to enhance staffˇs participation in environmental programmes and awareness on environmental information;
  • Provided training to staff on environmental protection and resources saving, including exchange programme with ¨Green Hotel〃 in Hong Kong, training on environmental management, carbon auditing and green procurement etc.;
  • Used solar energy by installing solar panels at the roof to support the lightings in carpark;
  • Used Microfiber for cleaning to reduce the use of detergents;
  • Provided electronic newspapers in guest rooms to reduce waste newspaper;
  • Provided disposable items upon request to encourage customers to bring their own personal health care products;
  • Purchased food waste composter to treat food waste;
  • Involved hotelˇs guests in planning and implementation of environmental programmes by collecting and incorporating their improvement suggestions in hotelˇs environmental programmes.

Continuous Improvement Items:

  • The hotel launched "E-Facsimile" to reduce the usage of paper for printing.
  • The hotel has provided computers in all guest rooms instead of provision of daily newspaper for guests reading newspaper. Such measure could reduce waste paper generation.
  • The hotel will implement a trial project on heat recovery for the restaurants and student canteens of the Institute For Tourism Studies.

Some of the environmental measures accomplished:

  • obtained the help from a professional organization to examine the lighting levels, temperature, and electricity consumption in offices and hotel area.
  • provided meals in “cost by weight” principle in staff canteen to minimize the wastage of food.
  • adopted water-based paints.
  • projected an environmental image of Pousada through the service provided to guests, e.g. the use of beautiful handcraft porcelain dispensers for soap and shampoo in bathroom.
  • participated in energy saving workshops.
  • supported the purchase of eco-friendly products.
  • adopted automatic dishwashing detergent, which did not contain NTA (nitrilotriacetic acid) and phosphate.
