Main Environmental Characteristics:

  • Established the “Green Ambassador” award and Environmental Suggestion Box to reward staff for their contribution to environmental initiatives;
  • Issued hotel’s environmental report to review the hotel's environmental performance and formulate future environmental programmes;
  • Replaced the crystal lamps at lobby by energy saving lamps to reduce electricity consumption;
  • Reduced water consumption through using dual flush toilet in guestrooms, outsourcing laundry services and controlling staff’s bath time;
  • Minimized noise generation through installation of noise enclosures for cooling tower at the rooftop, regular cleaning and inspection of motors;
  • Extended non-smoking area to hotel lobby, staff canteen, staff changing rooms and back of the house;
  • Did not install outdoor electronic displays on exterior wall to reduce light pollution;
  • Participated actively in environmental activities organized in Macao, such as the World Car Free Day, moon cake box recycling and old clothes recycling activities, etc.; used old materials for decoration during festivals; organized environmental seminars to enable employees learn more environmental knowledge.

Continuous Improvement Items:

  • To reduce electricity consumption: The hotel has closed half of the guest and staff lifts and has switched off half of the lights at corridors after midnight.
  • To reduce paper usage: The hotel has replaced hard copy records for staff attendance with electronic smart-card attendance system.
  • To encourage staff participating in environmental programmes: The hotel organized a "Green Ambassador Award" scheme annually to award staff members who provided useful environmental ideas or suggestions to the hotel.
  • To reduce noise level: The hotel will install acoustic enclosures for cooling towers located on the roof to reduce noise nuisance to the nearby residents.
  • To reduce solid waste generation: The hotel is going to reuse car parking smart card and refurbish old furniture for reuse. The hotel will also carry out research on the feasibility of supplying shopping bags with recycled contents for its customers.

Some of the environmental measures accomplished:

  • used energy-efficient equipment operating devices including variable speed motors for most of the washing machines and lifts.
  • used a variable voltage variable frequency (VVVF) drive when replacing the lift drive system.
  • operated steam boilers at two pressure levels – at higher pressure during winter and at lower pressure during summer for the production of steam in laundry and hot water in hotel.
  • used reusable bags made from old washcloths to transport dirty and clean linen for laundry services.
  • collected electrical appliances and used furniture for donation.
  • separated reusable materials arising from renovation for future used in guest rooms.
  • purchased biodegradable, phosphate-free detergents for washing of dishes / utensils and cleaning purposes.
  • implemented soap dispenser in standard guest rooms for replacing plastic bottles of soap and shampoo.
  • worked with suppliers to identify environmentally friendly products that can be substituted for those currently used.
