Main Environmental Characteristics:
- Nominated staff members who actively promote environmental protection and contribute to environmental initiatives to participate in outstanding staff competition;
- Installed motion sensors at guest room to control air-conditioning systems;
- Installed heat exchange system to utilize the heat energy generated from centralized air-conditioning system;
- Provided semi-self service rather than standard meal in staff canteen to minimize the wastage of food;
- Used air purifier (Ovell Bion Fresh) in VIP rooms of hotel restaurant to improve the indoor air quality;
- Operated exterior lighting in specific holidays that can reduce the electricity consumption and light pollution;
- Provided guest transportation with 3 other hotels to reduce the probability of operating shuttle bus without any passenger and enhance the efficiency of shuttle bus usage;
- Installed water-saving shower head in the Sauna room and removed the woofer speakers and equipment in the karaoke to align with hotelˇs green initiatives.
Continuous Improvement Items:
- The hotel has implemented green purchasing by selecting suppliers who provide toiletries with environmentally friendly packaging. In addition, the hotel has purchased Christmas trees that can be reused.
- The hotel has applied for the "Quality Management System-Requirements" (ISO9001) maintained by International Organization for Standardization in September 2009 to ensure that the quality of energy-saving measures adopted in the hotel met the international standards.
- The hotel replaced the existing boilers with heat pump system in November 2009 in order to reduce the emission of exhaust. The usage of heat pumps can act as a cooling source for hotel ventilation system.
- The hotel will consider to further increase the number of non-smoking floors in 2010 to improve air quality of the hotel.
Some of the environmental measures accomplished:
- established an incentive scheme to encourage staff members to initiate green measures.
- replaced most of conventional “Exit” signs with LED “Exit” signs.
- set the chilled water supply temperature to 7ºC in summer and use room temperature water (15ºC) in winter.
- installed waste heat recovery system to recover waste heat from the central air conditioning system.
- installed air cleaners in the smoking area in the VIP rooms of the restaurant.
- purchased new vehicles with Euro IV standards.
- encouraged staff and suppliers to suggest more environmentally friendly products, e.g. provide organic vegetables and fruit.
- communicated with tenants for environmental issues through monthly meeting and encouraged the hotel’s shops to carry products that are environmentally friendly through discount on lease.
- eliminated unnecessary forms, records and encouraged the use of electronic means for communications in order to reduce paper consumption.
- put the new furniture aired out for at least several weeks before being admitted indoors.
